DENIM OVERALL DRESS
Inspired by my father’s career in construction/development and photography of him wearing overalls and denim-clad attire on the job site. In combination with my father’s blue-collar background, I was inspired by photographs of my mother’s debutante ceremony in North Carolina. The dramatic silhouette of her gown contributed to the shape of the overall dress. The look is representative of my parent’s polar-opposite lives as young people living in North Carolina.
The “Denim Overall Dress” is made from pure cotton denim. It features a functional overall bib atop a fitted bodice. Within the interior of the dress is a red and white gingham bias binding, covering all seams. The pockets along the sides of the skirt contain a matching gingham lining.
The bib straps are detachable, secured by buttonholes and buttons attached to the interior of the left and right back of the skirt. The bodice is held upright by straps that wrap to the back of the wearer, made adjustable and secured by a large metal buckle.
